BREAKING NEWS! WE ARE NOW REPUBLICANS FOR OBAMA

I was curious about Obama so I read his book, Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance. It was amazing. I've never read anything from a modern politician that was so smart, refreshing, honest, etc. The book's a little cheesy and wordy at times, but I blame a lack of editing for that. In general, the writing is very good, and what comes through is Obama is not like other politicians. He is a human being (something Hillary unfortunately is not), and he is a true conservative in my opinion. Ok, he supports almost every single idiotic liberal policy on the face of the earth, but the way he thinks about politics is very Burkeian. He is skeptical and opposed to radicalism, ideology, and "magic solutions", and is really very careful and wonky, and well, conservative. I like him. Actually, I'm obsessed with him. So, I'm giving up the Hillary blog and starting an Obama blog. If he wants to invite me for dinner, I would love to come. Obama, e-mail me at republicansforhillary@gmail.com. I may have no military service, but at least I haven't had a sex-change! So, come check out the new blog at:

The Nutroots Are Getting Scared

Because Republicans like Hillary. And for good reason.

Bruce Bartlett is a Republican for Hillary

It's catching on:
At some point, politically sophisticated conservatives will have to recognize that no Republican can win in 2008 and that their only choice is to support the most conservative Democrat for the nomination. Call me crazy, but I think that person is Hillary Clinton.
The article can also be found on National Review Online. But there is also the development of Republicans for Obama which is curious and troubling at the same time:

But in an article in the Washington Post, Kagan wrote approvingly that a keynote speech by Obama at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs was “pure John Kennedy”, a neocon hero of the cold war. In his speech, Obama called for an increase in defence spending and an extra 65,000 soldiers and 27,000 marines to “stay on the offense” against terrorism and ensure America had “the strongest, best-equipped military in the world”. He talked about building democracies, stopping weapons of mass destruction and the right to take unilateral action to protect US “vital interests” if necessary, as well as the importance of building alliances. “Personally, I liked it,” Kagan wrote.

I think Kagan's reading of the speech was wishful thinking, Obama was vague and tried to include something for everyone. My personal feeling is that Obama is a real leftist, especially on foreign policy issues. And this recent piece about Obama's leftist Pastor, who has apparently had a strong influence on him, made me even more concerned. But if Obama does win, I hope Kagan is right.

Clinton and the Military

The New York Times is reporting that Hillary has spent a lot of time and effort learning about the military. This is good. The article notes that some say her close ties to the military will hurt her in the Democratic primary. Let's hope not. From the article:

Essential to Mrs. Clinton’s courtship of the military was winning a seat in 2002 on the Senate Armed Services Committee, which she had vigorously sought. In that role, she regularly meets with military officers, has traveled three times to Iraq and has attended hearings on global conflicts and the needs of the armed services.

Privately, two current military leaders who have testified before the Armed Services committee, and who by custom do not comment publicly on political figures, said they both found Mrs. Clinton conversant about the military and thoughtful in her questions.

She's pretty convincing

She needs to get some better speech-writers and speech-coaches. Plus, she must do something about the double-chin... I'm embarassed to say I actually prefer this version of the announcement to the original one. She seems more relaxed and friendly.
